You only need 2 players to complete a mad lib. If you have more than 2 people, take turns choosing which words to fill in the blanks.

1. Choose one person to fill in the story below.
2. The second person is not allowed to see the story. Instead, they have to think of the words that are missing from the story.
3. The first person will tell the second person what type of word they need (noun, verb, adverb, etc).
4. Once all the blanks are filled in, read the silly story!
5. Use a pencil so that the answers can be erased and the players can switch roles.

To help out:

Verb – action word (such as “run”)

Noun – a person, place or thing (such as Mom, Paris and noddle)

Adjective – a word that modifies another word (red, scary, beautiful)

Are the kids bored? Maybe it’s too hot outside or rainy and gross. Either way, building an indoor tent is always a good idea! You can use blankets, pillows, a large table or the couch to create a fun space for the kids to play in.

When I was a kid, my sister and I used to push our 2 twin beds several feet apart and drape blankets over the top. Then we would play games and tell scary stories inside the tent. The blankets were held in place with stacks of heavy books.

You can create a tent for the kids anyway you’d like or let them be the architects. Then provide flashlights, comfy pillows and maybe some board games to play in their new habitat. Don’t be surprised if they spend lots of time in the tent! Here are some things your kids can do in a tent (as if they won’t have ideas of their own, ha!)

• -Let them eat a snack or a meal in the tent. They’ll think it’s cool if you eat with them too!
• -Read or tell a scary bedtime story inside the tent
• -Bring sleeping bags into the tent and sleep under it
• -Have a shadow puppet show
• -Place a small tv inside the tent and eat snacks while watching a movie together

You Can’t Drink Honey

Mommy said to Billy Boy,
“What would you like for lunch?”
Billy said, “Well, let me think.”
And then he had a hunch.

“I don’t want cheese,
And I don’t want bread,
I don’t want lobster,
They’re way too red,
I don’t like juice,
I think juice tastes funny,
I’ll pass on tea,
and just drink honey!”

Mommy looked at Billy Boy,
her eyes glowed very big.
She put her hand upon her hips,
And did this little jig:

(to be read fast)

“You can toast some toast with butter.
You can spread some jam on then,
You can drink a drink of water.
And start all over again.
You can fry an egg with bacon.
And add some pepper for taste.
You can slice some fruit in quarters.
And the seeds can go to waste.
You can gobble down some turkey.
And smother it with mustard.
You can eat a can of pudding.
Or perhaps you would like custard.
You can eat some peas and carrots.
Unless the taste is funny.
You can have all the leftovers.
But you can’t drink honey!”

Billy marched to Daddy.
who was sitting at the table.
“I want to drink the honey
But Mom says I’m not able!”

Daddy looked at Billy Boy,
his legs began to prance.
He adjusted his suspenders,
and did this little dance:

“You can have a sub with meatballs.
You can cook some cookies too.
You can slurp some soup with croutons.
Or put noodles in a stew.
You can meet some meat in ketchup.
You can pound a pound of ham.
You can fish some fish out of the tank.
Or flock to seasoned lamb.
You can cartwheel to a hot dog.
Or put crackers in your tummy.
You can cook some frog legs in a pot.
(I hear those are quite yummy.)
You can crave some steak with gravy.
You can boil macaroni.
You can plant yourself in root beer.
(Although that would be too foamy.)
You can season crabs in season.
(Those cost a lot of money)
You can slice a pizza into fours.
But cannot drink honey!”

Billy Boy slumped to the floor,
his belly began to grumble.
He had to eat something fast,
so then he finally mumbled:

“I don’t want steak or gravy
I don’t want carrots or peas.
I just would like some honey.
On an apple pretty please?

I listened to your offers.
I’ve considered the whole schtick.
I cannot drink the honey.
But I’m sure that I can lick!”

10. Desert of Destruction - World Racers

World Racers is a new theme that is replacing Agents. I liked the minifigures from Agents a lot better but the vehicles are pretty sweet in World Racers. Case in point, this set includes a tanker truck that folds out to reveal a playset and 2 cars!

Status: Cool to look at, but won’t purchase

9. Space Police Central - Space Police

Finally, we get to see where the Space Police send all the baddies! I’m pretty sure this set will make kids’ imaginations soar way into outer space. Personally, I don’t buy playsets but if I did, I would totally pick up this set to harbor all my Space Police aliens.

8. Ferocious Creatures – Creator

Creator is my favorite LEGO theme (aside from the retired Batman Theme, sigh). I believe you get the most for your money with these sets. For instance, this alligator can also become a dinosaur or sea creature with the included instruction booklets.

7. Apple Tree House – Creator

This is another set from the Creator series where you can make 3 houses with one set. There have been a couple house Creator sets in the past and this one is by far, the most colorful and quaint. This set is great for girls! The details of the build are gorgeous and the lawn mower is a nice touch.

If you’ve seen Toy Story 3, you’ll remember the train chase at the beginning of the film. The scene showcases one of Andy’s many adventures with Buzz, Woody and the rest of the Toy Story gang before he grows up. The train includes 4 cars and minifigures of Buzz, Woody, Rex, Evil Dr. Porkchop (Hamm), Jessie and Bullseye. This set is colorful, easy to build, and well…Hamm’s minifigure really functions! Seriously, you can put lego gold in his slot and then uncork it later. If your kids are begging for this set, break down and get it.

3. Undersea Explorer – Atlantis

I really want this set but can’t find it in stores. It’s a mech-looking robot and a sea serpent of some sort! Out of all the Atlantis sets released so far, this is by far the one that stands out for me.

2. Lotso’s Dump Truck – Toy Story 3

I built this set in the car on the way to the beach. I giggled like a child as discovered I was building a toy, with a toy…that looked like another toy! This is the only set that includes Stretch and Chunk from Toy Story 3. It also looks exactly like the real deal that’s featured in the movie. I love this set and it’s a great price.
Price: $19.99

1. Grand Emporium

Yea, I had to make this number one on my list. Just look at it! If I had the room in my house I would have all the town buildings but alas, only small sets for me! The Grand Emporium lives up to its name and I can’t wait to see more town buildings from LEGO.

When I was in elementary school (over 20 years ago, yikes!) I used to collect cute erasers. Apparently, I was way ahead of the trend! Nowadays Japanese erasers are brightening up school supplies and come in a large variety of adorable shapes and designs. Today, I found CrazErasers from Fashion Angels at a local toy store. I’m pretty sure all my allowance would have been spent on these collectible erasers if they had been available in the 80s! Below are some of my favorites I found on amazon.com. These make great party favors or gifts for your child and their friends.
